1 / 3Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum
📍 Vista, CA
A 55-acre outdoor museum near San Diego featuring steam traction engines, antique tractors, a working sawmill, short-track railroad, and hands-on classes in blacksmithing, fiber arts, glass arts, and broom making.
Happened to be in the area and saw the Google map icon for AGSEM and thought, okay, why not? SO SO SO glad we stopped by, what a gem of a place! There is so much to see here with all of the beautiful machines that shaped our country. It’s a big place, mostly outdoor. Easy to navigate. There are nice restrooms, and a little store. There wasn’t a special event the day we were here, but I would definitely come back to see this place in action. Oh, and parking is easy too. Admission is free but please consider a donation—it’s worth it. Highly recommend!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for school-age kids and adults fascinated by machinery, history, or hands-on crafts. Visit during a tractor show or festival and the machines run, the demonstrations fire up, and the experience transforms. Off-event days are quieter and remains educational, especially for older kids who can engage with the static exhibits.

“First visit, this place is a real gem for those who love mechanical things ! Because this was a “show”, many of the machines and tractors were running (it wouldn’t be as good, if they weren’t). Steam tractors, stationary power, mechanical shovel, lumber mill, clock museum, blacksmithing and much more ! Loved it, so much history, and it was great to see families with kids (most not looking at their phones). Plenty of parking, very nice staff, reasonable prices ($10 admission and $11 t-shirt) ! Recommended, I’ll be back.”

“Was here for the Viking Festival that used to be in the Norway Friendship Hall downtown, this is a better place for it, with much more space. The tents and nice PA systems made for a great listening experience for the live music, despite the heat of summer. Food selections were great!”

“55 acres of rusty awesomeness! Antique farm equipment, big engines and so much more! Unfortunately we came two weeks too early to see them fire up some of the equipment and machines. They also have live music events.”
