1 / 3Compton Playground & Community Garden
π Presidio of San Francisco, CA
Secluded playground on federal Presidio land with a sandbox digger, working water faucet for sand play, and an adjacent community garden. Structures suit multiple ages. Ample parking and quiet surroundings.
This is a great little hidden treasure and place for the little ones to burn off some energy in the upper Presidio. I assume nobody knows about it because it's on Federal Land & you would pretty much have to live there to even know about it. there is also a cute little community garden right next to it. the playground is open everyday and I have never seen any kids in it, but there are tricycles and other toys and Tiny vehicles that are available. highly recommend! β₯οΈ
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with younger children who enjoy sensory and imaginative play in a relaxed, uncrowded setting. The water-faucet sandbox is a genuine draw for toddlers and preschoolers. Families visiting the Presidio can add this as a low-key stop between other park destinations.

βItβs in a quiet residential area, plenty of parking. Thereβs a digger in the playground and a working faucet in the sand pit though it could use a lot more sand. Iβm a sunny day there is not much shade, you can take an 8 min trail to Amatury playground for shade. Itβs a hidden gem.β

Overview
Compton Playground sits within the upper Presidio on federal land, making it largely unknown outside the immediate neighborhood. The sandbox features a mechanical digger and a working faucet β an unusual combination that gives kids hands-on water and sand play. A community garden borders the space. The area is clean, quiet, and shaded by the surrounding Presidio tree canopy. An 8-minute trail connects to Amatury Playground for families wanting more sun protection or additional equipment.
