1 / 2GP81
📍 Brooklyn, NY
GP81 is a community-driven climbing gym in Bushwick for ages 13 and up, featuring terrain from 0° to 60° angles, a signature 30-foot 45° wall, hangboards, campus boards, and free weights.
Very cool gym. Felt very homey, everyone was friendly. Seemed like the place to be with your friends and neighbors (and dogs!). Great environment, built out of an old warehouse. Limited space, but is used well. All wall types are present, albeit finite. Multiple training boards, and good training area.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with teenagers who are serious about climbing and want an authentic, community-first gym experience rather than a commercial climbing centre. The environment is unfiltered — dogs roam unleashed, the music is loud, and the atmosphere skews toward dedicated climbers.

“This is my favorite gym in New York, I wish I lived closer! I purchased a 11-pack of day passes which is basically about $27 for each day pass, slightly cheaper than other gyms in the 5 boroughs! I have been climbing for over 10 years, was a former youth competitor but now just do it for fun, so please trust when I say the setting here is solid! They set for many different heights & styles, and they set DENSELY, so there are always a lot of options. The problems are adequately challenging and not too soft or sandbagged, and ultimately very creative. They have two boards aside from the walls too. Plus the music??? VIBES!! They’re always playing some solid punk rock that makes you feel like you’re at a concert. I wish it wasn’t so hard for me to get to Bushwick 😭”

“A climbing gym for CLIMBERS. I used to be a member at other gyms in Brooklyn, and they were always overrun with children’s bday parties, had horrible route setting, or tried to be more like Equinox than a crag. GP81 is the opposite. It’s a delightfully thoughtful and authentic bouldering experience. Interesting & challenging routes, friendly staff, awesome clientele, and in the heart of Bushwick right off the subway stop. Decent strength training area, big bathroom, lounge area for working, cubbies to store bags. It’s got it all!”

“One of the best climbing gyms that I have been a member of. Initially, I was a member at movement gowanus, but I gave that up to climb here. I just enjoy the people and environment so much more. The setting is great The members are great (most people seem to genuinely like climbing) The staff is great The vibe is great…people trying hard, no weird / hinge / run club vibe, dogs The facility is definitely on the smaller side compared to many of the west coast gyms that I’m more familiar with.”
