1 / 2Hangar 18 Indoor Climbing Gym - East Riverside
π Riverside, CA
Hangar 18 East Riverside offers bouldering and top-rope routes in a warehouse-format gym with challenging lines for experienced climbers and accessible routes for newcomers. Part of the established Hangar 18 Southern California chain.
Had an awesome first experience at this gym. Deena at the front desk was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming, which made a huge difference for us as first-timers. She took the time to make sure we were comfortable and set up properly, and you could tell she genuinely cared about us having a good experience. The gym itself was clean, well-organized, and fun to climb. Weβll definitely be back!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids aged 7 and up who want a first or returning climbing experience. Staff are attentive with first-time visitors, making the drop-in format accessible for kids new to the sport. Cooler-weather visits or early morning sessions are more comfortable given the uncontrolled temperature environment.

βHangar 18 Riverside is my go to weekend climbing gym. The climbing routes are fairly challenging for experienced climbers and welcoming for newbies. The staff is also friendly and there is usually some great tunes playing over the speakers.β

βParking gets full at peak hours. This is closer to UCR than Arlington, so youβll get younger, hyped up people here. I find that the crowd is calmer at Arlington. Hangar gyms are basically climbing in a no temperature control warehouse. If the weather is hot, the inside will be scorching. If itβs cold, inside will be freezing. We basically have no choice here in gyms. Hangar is 3 times cheaper than touchstone gyms if you get the right deal, but touchstone is all over LA. Going to LA always suck. Touchstone is much nicer than Hangar and it reflects in the price. Iowa is known as Riverside east location. They have auto belay but no top rope or lead climbing. Sometimes you can be bitten by mosquitos in all hangar gyms. Thatβs the perk of warehouse gym. Iβm a mosquito magnet and I hate it. This location provides paper cup sometimes for their water dispenser. They donβt have water fountain, so bring a bottle or cup to be safe. Arlington never provides cup. The holds are worn, the walls are slippery with minimal texture/grip. Touchstone walls have texture your shoes can grab onto. The outdoor rocks also have texture your shoes can grip, but the walls at Hangar are like a slide.β

Overview
Hangar 18's East Riverside location sits on Iowa Avenue in a warehouse-style facility with bouldering and top-rope climbing areas. Routes are calibrated for both beginners and experienced climbers, and staff are consistently praised for welcoming first-timers and ensuring they're set up correctly. The gym sits close to UC Riverside and draws an active, younger crowd on peak days. The warehouse format means temperatures track outside conditions β the gym can get warm in summer.
