Last Saturday night I finally stepped into the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix and wow, it’s even more stunning in person! The glowing glass-brick façade lit up the whole block as I walked up. Inside, the lobby feels warm and classy—perfect glass of wine in hand before the show. We caught Arizona Theatre Company’s production of “The Lehman Trilogy” on the big Center Stage. The 800-seat house feels intimate yet grand, with perfect sightlines and acoustics so crisp I caught every whisper. Three hours flew by in that epic story, and when the standing ovation hit, the whole place erupted. Walking out into the cool Phoenix night buzzing with that theater high was pure magic. I’m already checking the calendar for my next visit—this place is an absolute gem! Located in downtown Phoenix.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with school-age children who have seen live theater before and can sit through a full production. School group performances are a particular strength — the venue's deep ties with local schools create an encouraging, familiar atmosphere for young audiences.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Book Row A seats for proximity to the stage — the intimate scale means most sightlines are strong
Use the second-floor restrooms at intermission to avoid the main-floor queue
🎟️Arrive well before curtain — shows occasionally run late if the prior performance overruns
🚗First Friday events are free or low-cost and a lower-pressure introduction to the venue for young kids

Super to attend a Herberger Theater night outside during the cool winter months. The center features different cultural nights, this night was a Night in Japan. I hope to attend more as the events at the Herberger theater center with first Fridays in downtown Phoenix.

Fantastic show, 2nd one I've seen here with my daughter's school. The shows are fantastic and I love how involved they are with the schools. I truly believe kids should see more theater shows, such a great time!

Beautiful venue! Great sound! I showed up late to my show, but all the way to the top right, still wonderful!
