I visit SLC once or twice a year to go rock climbing or snowboarding, and I have gone to the Momentum gyms a few times. This one in Millcreek seems to be the major hub. I have gone to gyms all over the country, and this is one of the highest quality gyms out there. The good: 1. The staff seem like standard gym employees. They're friendly and got us checked in with a belay check done within minutes. They said they didn't have the staff to do a lead check on our first visit, but that's pretty standard. I've only been to one gym ever that did a lead check for us right after the initial TR belay check. 2. This place is clean. I didn't see any chalk dust floating around either which I appreciate. 3. The gym is big and has varied climbs at every grade for bouldering, TR, and lead. There are several cracks of various sizes. They have a speed wall which is not super common. There's a beginner area and a dedicated kids area as well. Pretty much anything you could want. 4. The lighting and heating/AC is good. These seem like simple things, but if you've ever been to a gym without good lighting or AC, you know it makes a difference. 5. The training area is well equipped. Moonboard, Kilter, Tension, cardio and weights, etc. Clean locker rooms with a sauna. The bad: 1. Despite the gym's size, it gets crowded. Go midday on a weekday if at all possible to avoid the crowds.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

A comprehensive family climbing destination with something at every ability level. The dedicated kids area means young climbers develop confidence without competing for space on adult walls. Midday weekday visits avoid the 4– youth group rush that packs the bouldering circuits.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Visit midday on weekdays to avoid the 4– youth group rush on the bouldering circuits
⏰The dedicated kids area is physically separated from the main walls β€” good for independent play
🎟️Staff belay checks are typically quick; lead certification checks may need to be scheduled in advance
πŸš—Yoga classes run daily and are a good option for parents as kids climb

β€œJust moved to Salt Lake City from LA, and I have to sayβ€”this gym is amazing. I’m really looking forward to checking out the other locations and seeing what they have to offer. One thing I do miss from my gym in LA is the saunaβ€”it was truly top tier. While this gym does have a sauna, I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t feel very warm, even though the gauge read 195Β°. There also seems to be a noticeable draft from the door, which lets cold air in and likely affects the temperature. That said, I’m still grateful to have a sauna at all, and everything else about the gym is exceptional. For that reason, I’m happily leaving a five-star review.”

β€œWhile this gym is the absolute bees knees, I must point out what truly makes this place shine which is the staff. I was trying to fit my teeny tiny little shoes on and was met with the kindest assistance and education from a man who was on crutches from a not only very brave act he endeavored in the wilderness, but one that he killed a full on bear for. Not only does this man embrace the spirit of the bear with him, but embodies what it takes to be a true momentum front reception worker. Seth, you’ll never be forgotten, but always cherished. Thanks for making climbing safe for the city.”

β€œMember for 5 years now and grateful to have such an amazing climbing gym, with yoga, fitness equipment, and social events so close to home. One gym to meet all my needs. And now they added a sauna at Millcreek. Bonus amenity! I also love that they host World Cup events.”
