Top choice for families with climbing beginners who want expert instruction and a welcoming environment. Features 200+ routes up to 56 feet high with introductory classes and beginner packages.
Great first experience with my little girls. The space is clean, calming, and thoughtfully built-out. The staff were really friendly over the phone answering questions about my girlsβ apprehensions. They were even more friendly in person. Em and a fellow female staff member working with her this morning were awesome! Em walked us up to the second floor, explained everything to us after answering all our questions, and then we proceeded to boulder. The girls loved it, and the next time I look forward to bringing my son to join in on the action. Lovely facilities with a laid back atmosphere. They offer plenty of areas to sit down and rest between climbs π§ββοΈ, have a ping pong π table on the first floor, and a cute gift shop that has a few light snacks to power-up if you need a little pick me up. Fresh food and drinks would be a nice amenity or addition in the future for those looking to make a day of their experience without leaving the gym to eat. We canβt wait to come back!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children new to rock climbing who want excellent instruction and a welcoming environment. The staff excel at helping nervous beginners, and the climbing areas are well-maintained. However, avoid the locker rooms and be prepared for high costs and crowds during peak times.

βBeen going here for a couple years and probably one of the best climbing gyms in the city IMO. Not 5 stars for a couple reasons. Memberships are expensive at around $100 dollars a month. Secondly the locker rooms/showers/sauna could be a lot cleaner and also kept stocked with fresh towels more reliably. Otherwise highly recommendβ

βOverall a decent gym, top notch dependable weekly setting, clean climbing and fitness area. 2 stars off for lack of cleanliness in the locker room, shower, and sauna. Iβve brought my concerns up with staff several times but havenβt seen much improvement. The sauna could use a pressure wash and bench replacement. The locker rooms should be cleaned a few times a day, itβs very unsanitary. Movements big edge over the other climbing gyms in the city are the sauna and showers. Not maintaining the facilities erodes the value propositionβ

βI started coming to this Movement location a little over 2 years ago and immediately loved it. It was a slow-paced piece of heaven in the fast-paced nature of the city. It was so clean, it had a safe and inclusive feeling for all people, and there was a mutual respect among the members. Iβm not sure if this location has new management, but I wonβt be coming back. The womenβs locker rooms have been filthy all fall/winter and I havenβt felt comfortable showering here in awhile. The top rope routes are still very dynamic and enjoyable, but the bouldering routes feel disjointed and the area is always very crowded with many people yelling over the music, making it impossible to concentrate on any route upstairs. The vibes have changed drastically and are more Lincoln Park aligned with lots of bros being loud and hogging the bouldering area. Non-members and new climbers arenβt informed of safety standards or climbing etiquette and are very reckless. Skip this location and go to the Wrigleyville location or First Ascent in Uptown.β
