1 / 3Putt Putt Van Winkle
π Bovina Center, NY
Nine-hole, donation-based mini golf course set in scenic Bovina Center in the Catskill Mountains. Each hole features Rip Van Winkle history panels.
If you're in the mood for some mini-golf, Putt Putt Van Winkle is a fantastic place to visit. The courses are nine holes each and quite long, providing a fun and challenging experience. What makes this mini-golf spot unique is the bit of history written on each post about Van Winkle's history, adding an educational element to the fun. During our visit, we were lucky enough to get in for free as the owner was still working hard on the landscaping. While the courses were a bit overgrown, they still provided a good challenge. However, there were a couple of downsides to our experience. The walking path to each course could use some improvement as it was a bit confusing and difficult to navigate. Additionally, some of the bricks were loose and could pose a hazard if not careful. Overall, if you're willing to overlook the few cons, Putt Putt Van Winkle is a great place to spend an afternoon with friends and family.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids aged 8 and up who can manage hilly, uneven terrain without frustration. The donation model removes financial pressure, and the Van Winkle theme makes it genuinely educational. Families who appreciate quirky, owner-run attractions over polished commercial venues will love it most.

βThis was such a cool place! I am from the Chicago burbs visiting friends from Albany, and we made the trip out to Putt Putt Van Winkle. 100% worth it! The trip out there was incredibly scenic, and the setting was great. The course was challenging and fun. The couple who runs this establishment puts their hearts into their work, and it shows. We had a great time talking with them while enjoying ice cream. Fun place to take the kids, and the adults will love it too! Definitely recommend!β

βThis is my favorite mini golf course of all time. The location is gorgeous and the course is so fun and whimsical. We only come to the area once a year but we always stop by and play. Itβs free to play but you can leave a donation, plus there are cute souvenirs and ice cream / snacks. My kids love it but I might love it more.β
