1 / 3South Mountain Ice Arena
📍 West Orange, NY
Essex County Codey Arena has two indoor ice rinks, public skating sessions on Fridays and weekends, learn-to-skate classes for all levels, hockey programs, and birthday party packages. Free parking is available on site.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who want a proper ice skating outing with professional instruction options. The dual-rink setup means there's usually ice time available. Younger children who haven't skated before will benefit from the learn-to-skate program rather than being thrown into public sessions.

Overview
The facility runs two ice rinks - the main rink is larger and in better condition; Rink 2 was recently renovated. Public sessions run 1.5 hours each. Learn-to-skate programs cover beginner through advanced levels. Hockey programs run year-round. Skate rentals are available. Free parking exists on site and is poorly marked - paid sections are easy to accidentally use. Concessions may not always be open.
