1 / 2Space Farms: Zoo & Museum
π Sussex, NY
A 100-acre zoo and museum complex with over 500 animals, hands-on feeding opportunities, and 9 museum buildings filled with antique cars, artifacts, and collections. Great for families wanting a leisurely, less commercial zoo experience.
We just visited during their last weekend of the season. My family had a wonderful time. Plenty of animals to look at and very engaging for the little ones. It wasn't overly crowded, so we didn't feel rushed by other groups trying to look at the same enclosures. Our favorite part was feeding the Kodiak bears and getting them to wave at us! We will definitely be back. My husband took some amazing photos as well!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who enjoy a leisurely zoo experience with hands-on animal interactions and eclectic history collections. Works well for all ages who appreciate a more intimate, less commercial feel than major city zoos. Be prepared for a mixed experience - excellent animals but potentially disappointing museum areas.

βGreat place to spend time in for all ages. The "museum" is effectively several museums. These people collected and kept in good shape a large variety of items, artifacts, historical pieces, memorabilia, machines, dolls, clocks, weapons and whatnot. It's divided among different buildings based on the subject. Really enjoyed the time exploring it all. The car collection is also interesting. The zoo has some unique exhibits. Contrary to a lot of other "more professional" zoos that often give you just a window in a wall so you're lucky to see the animals, here you can watch the animals from more angles and enough space to watch.β

βWe were camping in the area and decided to come explore the zoo and museums. I enjoyed the fact that you just can walk at your pace to each animal and spend as much time watching them as you like. The feel here is much different than, say, the Philadelphia Zoo. We were lucky enough to be there at feeding time which was so interesting to see how intelligent these animals are. The museums are interesting and filled with many different collections and if youβre into history they definitely should be able to check some boxes off. There is a small gift shop, snack bar and bathrooms on site. Was a great way to blow through most of a day.β

βHad a great day at space farms. The animals were out and fun to feed them. The museums were cool and Interesting with all the antiques from the items when you first wall in to the old cars . They have a small sitting area for some food and drinks and a gift shop with tables of affordable items for the kids to buy. πβ
