Awesome climbing wall in Steelworkers park. Built into the old steel ore walls. Incredibly cool place to climb. Once you get to the top of the 30 foot wall the views are amazing. Amenities for all types of climbing. Chicago park district hosts open climbs on weekends. Rei leads learn to climb classes at this location as well. Routes for beginner and experienced climbers. Honestly just such a cool place.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with older kids and teens ready to try outdoor climbing in a genuinely unique industrial setting. The 30-foot routes and autobelay system work for first-timers through intermediate climbers. Pair the climb with the prairie walk and lakefront for a full day out. Climbing is self-supervised — no staff on wall duty.

“Such a cool way to utilize the property. If done right you could spend the day here. Pack a light picnic, climb the wall (at your own risk) explore the grounds (16 acres), a bike would be excellent here. Lake Michigan offers fishing and swimming, or just relax by the water. Spend the day here and plan accordingly. Parking is easy, portable potty, no fee.”
