βMOCA offers a deeper, more exploratory look at contemporary art compared to its neighbor The Broad. While The Broad leans iconic with works that are instantly recognizable, MOCA isnβt afraid to challenge you a bit more with works that step into the experimental or abstract. While you might not recognize every artist, there are some genuinely intriguing pieces that will make you stop and think. The space here is calm, clean and much quieter than The Broad, which makes for a great place for a slow and quiet browsing. The layout is also easy to navigate (without being too predictable) and you can easily spend an hour, maybe more if you enjoy reading wall text. Tickets are also free which makes for a great museum day if in the area. Overall, the MOCA is smart, engaging and an underrated museum that perfectly complements The Broad across the street. Absolutely worth a visit if you are in the downtown area!β

βA fun museum with confusing artwork. Iβve been thinking about the art all day. I suppose that means the artists are quite skilled. I really enjoyed the Yamaguchi exhibit (which I understand will be gone early in January 2026). The basement also has a little craft area for kids. I canβt wait to see what new exhibits are to come.β

βThe MOCA is a museum founded by Eli Broad, a co-founder of The Broad Museum. Itβs focused on contemporary art from international artists. Itβs a small museum, with a loop on one floor. If you have time, visit this museum, itβs jar crossing the street from The Broad. It will take you 30-60min to watch it all.β
