1 / 3Wildlife Explorers Basecamp
📍 Balboa Park, CA
Wildlife Explorers Basecamp is a 3-acre zone within San Diego Zoo featuring four habitat-themed nature play areas: Desert Dunes, Wild Woods, Marsh Meadows, and Rainforest.
We spent quite a bit of time here in this area! There are interactive exhibits to do inside the Spineless Marvels building. And tons to see in this area in general. There is a butterfly biosphere building too that I enjoyed. Also there was an outdoor sloth presentation. So cool!!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children ages 3-12. The physical play areas — climbing, scrambling, water jets — suit energetic kids, and the animal encounters add educational depth without feeling like a classroom. The butterfly biosphere and sloth presentations are highlights that resonate across age groups.
