Attended the premiere of Aftershock here, and it was truly an unforgettable night! The energy was electricβ€”it felt like a movie within a movie. It was such an honor to be among the first to see the film. I spotted quite a few celebrities; some were incredibly gracious while others were... interesting! Overall, a fantastic venue for such a high-profile event.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best suited for families with older teens who can handle potential disruptions and venue issues. The premium Dolby and Prime theaters offer excellent technical quality, but frequent reports of unruly audiences, poor cleanliness, and minimal staff intervention make this challenging for younger children or families seeking a peaceful movie experience.

πŸ’‘Book Dolby Cinema or Prime theaters for the best technical experience
⏰Expect to navigate multiple floors - escalators often out of service

β€œThis Theater is visually stunning the ceiling alone is worth mentioning. Seats and screens are great, but the snack situation could be better. Having to go all the way to the first floor for food and drinks feels inconvenient, especially when there are bars on every floor. The drink bar works, so it’s not a dealbreaker. Overall, still a good AMC in the city.”

β€œAMC Empire 25 is one of my go-to theaters in the city, especially when I want a true premium movie experience. The Dolby Cinema and Prime theaters are absolutely the highlight β€” the sound quality is immersive, the screens are massive, and the seating is comfortable enough that you can really settle in and enjoy the film. When everything is running smoothly, it’s genuinely one of the best places in NYC to watch a movie. That said, the experience can be a bit inconsistent at times. The escalator being out of service has been an ongoing frustration, especially considering how busy the theater gets and how many floors you have to navigate. It can make entry and exit feel more chaotic than it needs to be. There are also moments when common areas feel a little messy or understaffed, particularly during peak hours, which takes away from what should be a premium experience. Despite those issues, I still find myself coming back because the screen quality, sound, and overall vibe are hard to beat. When the theater is well-maintained and fully operational, it really shines. With a bit more consistency in cleanliness and maintenance, this location could easily be one of the best AMC theaters in the city. Overall, a great spot for movie lovers β€” especially for Dolby and Prime screenings β€” with just a few operational improvements needed to make it truly excellent.”

β€œEverytime I come here there are disruptive people ruining the movie. There is no security or staff monitoring the auditoriums looking for this. During the whole movie people are just chatting away, like they're in their own living room, totally oblivious to how annoying they are. Other people are scrolling on their phones, or even snoring. Someone even took a phone call during a movie. One time, an old lady said "sush" to people who were being loud, and they responded by yelling threats of violence at her. Security should be checking the auditoriums, not just hiding in corners of the hallways. Nobody wants to get up to report the problem because they’ll miss a big chunk of the movie to look around this giant building for an employee or security guard who’s probably on a different floor and doesn’t care anyway. We shouldn’t have to miss 20 minutes of the movie to report this. The employees and security should be more visible, nearby, and checking auditoriums, readily available to handle complaints and take action about disruptive people. Something needs to change in a very big way, because sometimes I wish I never came here for a movie.”
