1 / 2Boulderdash Indoor Rock Climbing
π Westlake Village, CA
Indoor rock climbing gym in Westlake Village with top-rope walls and a smaller bouldering section. Weekend private instruction from age 3, weekday classes from age 5. All gear included in classes, free parking, on-site cafe.
I usually climb at Touchstone gyms in LA and the SF Bay Area, but have been to Boulderdash twice when visiting family in the area. My partner and I really enjoy it. The top rope routes are fun and I think the route setters do a great job. Itβs a little annoying that we had to retake the belay test because it had been over 6 months since our last visit, but it was very quick and the nice staff member (didnβt get his name) prioritized getting us tested in the midst of handing several kids during a busy time at the gym. If you are bringing your kids to climb but donβt know how to belay, you can sign your kids up for one of the classes where the staff members will belay them. I havenβt done this myself but Iβve observed the staff being really awesome with kids - they are enthusiastic and very encouraging.
π Family Action Verdict
First-time climbing families and those with children who lack confidence on heights will find Boulderdash's staff β particularly Frank β unusually well-suited to building kids up rather than rushing them. Top-rope is the core offering here; bouldering enthusiasts looking for extensive beginner-level problems will find the V0βV2 selection sparse.

βMy son is not good really coordinated. He is afraid of falling and had hard time coming down. Frank was super supportive and patient with him. My son came to me with a smile and told me that I have to give a five star to Frank. We had been to this place many times with our scout troop and Frank made this time the most memorable one. Frank is so good with kids and so encouraging, too. I appreciate his service.β

βStarted coming to Boulderdash recently with my kids. The gym had a great friendly environment, and the staff had been so helpful. Frank did our belay class and he taught the process and safety in a way that was easy to remember. He also is super encouraging with the kids during classes. Would recommendβ

βFirst time I did indoor rock climbing with son and other friends and enjoyed it completely. Though we couldnβt do boulders climbing as there were no trainers available but we could do smaller rock climbing with little instructions given by support staff.β
