1 / 2Children's Nature Play Area
π San Antonio International Airport Vicinity, TX
Created in 2019 from salvaged trees, this nature play area at Phil Hardberger Park features log climbing, stump tic-tac-toe, stepping stones, a cedar-limb teepee, and a large fallen tree to crawl over. Dirt and mulch ground cover cushions falls.
There's a nice playground for toddlers and younger kids; it seems relatively safe (no loose pieces, wasp hives, etc). The nature area is cute also. I haven't done the trails lately but hopefully I'll be able to convince my toddler soon. There are a few basketball hoops. The area by the playground has only portable toilets. Bonus: A Little Free Library was recently added in the Nature Area!!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for toddlers and kids under 8 who thrive in unstructured, imagination-driven outdoor play. The natural materials and open-ended setup reward curious, creative kids. Pairs seamlessly with the Blue Playground next door for a longer visit. Parents should expect muddy hands and shoes on the natural ground surface.

βSuper nice natural play area with big logs and stumps. They also have a teepee made of cedar limbs. Nicely maintained with plenty of shade. It is right next to the regular playground and playing fields. Ground in this area is made of dirt, sticks and mulch to soften any falls. Great place for kids to play with adult supervision.β

Overview
The Children's Nature Play Area at Phil Hardberger Park was built by park staff and volunteers using trees salvaged from the Land Bridge clearing and city donations. Kids play tic-tac-toe on tree stumps, build teepees, cross stepping stones, and clamber over a large downed tree. The ground is natural dirt, sticks, and mulch. Plenty of shade overhead keeps the area cool.
