1 / 3Donovan Park
📍 Northside, TX
Privately-owned gated community playground in Houston Heights, established 1996. Features climbing structures for multiple age groups, shaded areas, and a watchful parent community—particularly valued by families with autistic children.
We’ve been coming to this park for years and years, and it still never gets old. My kids are 8 and 6 now, and it somehow feels just as fun as it did when they were tiny. A couple practical notes: there’s no designated parking, so it’s street parking only or park in the shopping center across the way. Also, no bathroom on site. We usually just pop over to the ice cream shop across the way when needed (and honestly… their toasted rice is the best).
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with toddlers, preschoolers, and children with autism or other conditions where a secure, fully enclosed play space is critical. The gate perimeter and watchful parent culture make it one of the most genuinely secure neighbourhood parks in the Heights.

“Such a family friendly park!! I love how the park is secured by gate all the way around. I have 2 autistic kids so it really gives peace of mind just in case they decide to run off in different directions they won't get far. The parents all keep eyes out and all the parents are friendly. There's plenty of places to sit and It's always clean! Can't wait for another visit!!”

“Cute little park in the Heights. Not enough parking so you might have to drive around a while, especially during peak times. We went on a Saturday morning around 10 am. The structures are well made, it looks to have a smaller and larger one. There are a few swings and tables in a few different places. Might not come back since I'm not in this area often, but it was a nice visit.”

“Great park but the play sets are in need of some updates. They’re asking for donations! The big kid area isn’t super safety-conscious but mostly okay. The little kid area is nice and fun. Overall, great spot with lots of shade and so many fun things for kids to do and explore.”
