1 / 3Family Room Chicago on Broadway
π Lake View East, IL
Home-style neighborhood play space offering drop-in access, STEM classes, arts and crafts, after-school programs, and childcare. Outside food allowed. Unlimited coffee provided for adults. No booking required for open play.
I recently took my 3-year-old son to the Family Room Neighborhood Club and Play Space for his Saturday STEM class, and I couldnβt be happier with the experience. Mrs. Angelique did a fantastic job setting up a fun, engaging, and educational environment. My son had a blast throughout the entire two-hour session, and itβs so wonderful to see him excited about learning. One of the biggest perks of this place is that my daughter was able to enjoy herself and play freely while her brother was in class. The space is inviting, relaxing, and truly makes you feel like youβre at home β a stark contrast to many other places Iβve been to that can feel hectic and overwhelming. Another great feature is that youβre welcome to bring your kidsβ lunch and enjoy it right there, making it super convenient for busy families. Overall, I highly recommend the Family Room Neighborhood Club & Play Space. Thank you, Kim and Angelique, for creating such a warm, fun, and educational environment for my children to play and learn! Weβll definitely be returning!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 1β6 who want a relaxed, community-feel space they can use flexibly β drop in on a weekday, book a Saturday STEM class, or host a party for 50 without the logistics overhead. Free unlimited coffee and a fully stocked bathroom make it genuinely parent-friendly, not just kid-friendly.

βDo your kids like arts & crafts? Do you want your kid to socialize but maybe you struggle to make plans? Do you need to get out of the house? This might be the place for you. Family room is a large living room filled with toys you don't have (and some you do) plus a wide spectrum of arts & crafts supplies. For adults, there's free unlimited coffee. For everyone, there's water in 3 oz cups, limiting clean up when small hands make mistakes. They stock the bathroom with wipes and size 3 diapers. Makes it easy for a drop in, or any kind of visit where a parent doesn't want to pack a huge bag. Your 1-6 year old can get pretty reliably get an hour or two of hands on fun. For older kids, there's a big kids fit and fun next door, best if your child can shoot a basketball into a shortened (~9 foot) hoop.β

βThe after-care program is truly exceptional. Every time I walk in, the room is full of kids laughing, playing, and genuinely enjoying themselves. Itβs a lively, positive environment where children can be kids exploring, socialising, and having fun in a safe and well-supervised space. The staff deserves a huge thank-you. They manage the group with patience, professionalism, and so much heart. You can see how comfortable the kids are and how much trust they have in the adults caring for them. What I appreciate most is that itβs not just βbabysitting.β The children are engaged, active, and happy, and they always leave with big smiles and stories to share. Highly recommend this after-care program to any parent looking for a safe, joyful, and enriching place for their child to spend their afternoons.β

βThis is the community space that I never knew I needed! My kids are always so excited to come and play and have a hard time leaving. My kid had an absolute blast at spring break camp and wants to join summer camp too! Thus far, Saturday obstacle course class is our favorite other than open play. Eager to see what Kim and team come up with next!β
