“Very nice place. Be careful for the mid to late summer green flies. They are nasty and bite hard. Also...today the lifeguards blew their whistles to get everyone out of thr pool....because some kid got everything out of his behind. And the beach and sand are off limits due to high bacteria levels and the remnants from a recent oil spill. Despite all these setbacks...it can be a very nice plae.. UPDATE - MARCH 10, 2026 Today was a very unconventional visit. The weather for the first third of March was insanely beautiful. 70's , sunny , not too windy. Perfect! I made my way over to the side and started to work on my collection of Sudoku, Kakuro and Higado puzzles on my clipboard. Unfortunately... by the time I started to leave...it was later than I thought and I realized that I was locked inside the park complex. This prompted a non-emergency call to the Nassau County Police Department, where a friendly, professional switchboard operator told me she would send someone as soon as possible. She also took my phone number and told me to stay by the gate so that I would be seen. It might take about 20 minutes. Ten minutes later...a lady with her kid stopped by to ask if the beach was open. I told her, "Only if you can travel by kyak." Another Ten minutes later a gentleman with a key from the Public Saftey Department pulled up, had the key and saved the day. I asked why they lock the park up...since there is nothing really to steal or break. He told me it's to prevent high-school kids from causing trouble late at night. He asked me if that one car in the lot was mine. "Yes." "Well then the guy who locks up should have checked before locking up." Kind of like a school bus driver should always check his or her vehicle for sleeping kids at the end of a shift. Thank you Nassau County Police Department. Thank you Town of Hempstead Public Saftey Department. And Thank YOU for reading this.”
