1 / 3Hudson River Museum
๐ Northwest Yonkers, NY
Combines art galleries, a working planetarium, the 1877 Glenview mansion, and weekend Family Studio workshops. Strong option for mixed-age groups. Planetarium and mansion tours are ticketed separately beyond general admission.
This is a small museum but a great local day out, especially in less favorable weather conditions like rain, heat, or cold. There are a nice array of Hudson River School painters in the permanent collection. There are also some interesting exhibits thar change over from time to time. Two museum exhibits include scavanger hunts and these were great! Additionally there is a planetarium with a very informative general audience show $8 (Adult) as well as some specialized to children. The Glenview Mansion is part of the museum and can also be toured for an additional $8. Last, but not least, the museum offers a drop in craft . Today as part of our admission my friends and I made fun little bracelets out of film. There was a children's project of decorating gloves as well. So...a little something for most tastes. All told,I believe we spent about 4 hours. Its close to Untermeyer Gardens as well.
๐ Family Action Verdict
Best for mixed-age families wanting several activities under one roof without driving between venues. The combination of planetarium, mansion tour, crafts, and galleries fills a full half-day across different age interests. The venue is sized so it doesn't feel overwhelming even during busy periods.

โReturning to the Hudson River Museum this past weekend was a full-circle moment for me. I was born and raised in Yonkers and hadnโt been back to the museum since around 1984. As a kid, the planetarium was always my favorite part and Iโm happy to say itโs still just as magical. We saw the planetarium show, explored the museum galleries, and toured Glenview, the historic home on the property. The entire experience was wonderful. The museum feels vibrant, well-curated, and welcoming. Our tour guide at Glenview, Rowan, was absolutely fabulous โ incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and entertaining. Itโs clear how much passion they bring to the history of the home, and it made the visit that much more memorable. Iโm so glad I decided to return after all these years. The Hudson River Museum is truly a gem in Yonkers, and I highly recommend a visit. Will definitely visit again soon!โ

โVery enjoyable, lovely exhibits that covered a variety of artistic approaches. Educational and not overwhelming. The planetarium seemed to have a nice program for children along with a scavenger hunt. Nicely spaced out so it wouldn't seem crowded even if there were many visitors. And the view of the Hudson River is wonderfulโ
