Ice Skating @ USNWC
📍 Moores Chapel, NC
Ice Skating at USNWC converts the upper pond into a 24,000 sq ft outdoor rink each winter, featuring two ice trails, two free skate zones, cask curling lanes, and a pond hockey league. Skate rentals are included with pass purchase.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
The ice trail format makes this accessible for beginner skaters who benefit from a defined path rather than open-rink navigation. Cask curling adds a second activity without extra cost, extending the visit for mixed-ability groups. Skate rentals are included in the pass - families need only bring their own socks.

Overview
Every November, the US National Whitewater Center's upper river pond transforms into the largest outdoor ice skating venue in the Southeast. The 24,000-square-foot rink divides into four distinct zones: two winding ice trails and two open free-skate areas. An Airstream stationed mid-rink serves hot and cold beverages. Cask curling - a mini-keg sliding variant - is included with any skating pass and requires lane reservations.
