1 / 2Leroy King Carousel
📍 Yerba Buena, CA
Built by Charles Looff in 1906 and designated a California Historic Resource in 1984, this carousel sits inside Yerba Buena Gardens. Riders under 42 inches require a paid adult chaperone. Children 2 and under ride free.
My son loved riding the carousel. Tickets were 3 dollars each. The horse was well crafted and may have had real horse hair for the tail. The ride lasted longer than wxpected and when it ended my son asked to do it again, and I obliged. The first horse didnt have any movement but the second one did. He had so much fun both times.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for toddlers and early elementary kids who love classic rides and hands-on history. Kids under 42 inches need a paid adult riding alongside them. Pair with the Children's Creativity Museum next door for a half-day outing.

Overview
The LeRoy King Carousel — originally the Looff Carousel — is one of San Francisco's most storied attractions. Crafted in 1906, the horses feature detailed woodwork and are said to have real horsehair tails. Organ music plays throughout each ride, which runs longer than the typical carousel spin. The carousel sits adjacent to the Children's Creativity Museum, surrounded by playgrounds and an ice skating and bowling center, making it an easy anchor for a full day at Yerba Buena Gardens.
