1 / 3Movement Harlem
π Manhattan, NY
Indoor bouldering gym with beginner-through-advanced routes, intro classes, a 15-day trial membership, dedicated strength and cardio areas, lockers, showers, and yoga studios.
Iβm new to climbing here, and during my first sessions I couldnβt find my phone after leaving it on a desk. The staff handled the situation with care and professionalism. They later received a call confirming that someone had mistakenly picked it up, and the whole process was resolved smoothly. This experience really strengthened my trust in the gym and its community. A special thank-you to Michael for being so helpful! Overall, itβs a great and friendly gym, and Iβm more than excited to exploring more here:)
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older kids or teens curious about bouldering who want structured instruction before committing to a membership. The Saturday intro class is a low-risk entry point. Staff resolve problems professionally when they arise.

βThe first climbing gym I've been to, had a lot of fun trying out all the different problems. It was a lot more difficult than I expected, I can see how this could be something that you could get really good at if you went regularly. Employees were friendly and I had a great time.β

βAttended a free Intro class on Saturday 3pm by joining a 15 day trial membership. 4 female attendees including myself. Space was crowded with some event but we each got to climb several v-intro and v-0 courses. Class also attempted a few v-1, which were definitely more challenging. Great workout, awakening muscles I wasnβt aware of. My palms and were red after 30 minutes with rests. Instructor Randy was excellent: attentive to safety and wall sharing for all. After bouldering I checked out the free-weights area and cardio area. Adequate, and supplied with wipe-down towels and a spray bottle. After a rest day I returned to gym Monday night. Much less crowded. Yoga classes were in session. While tackling all v-intro paths I could find, discovered a new-to-me v-0 that was challenging, and I even I had to ask someone more advanced how to start on it. Friendly people, relaxed community vibes. My palms felt tender again after 20 minutes, and my forearms, shoulders and back were still sore from the great Intro, so I took it easy and focused on lower body at weights and cardio areas. Between Yoga classes I went to snap a photo of its weekly schedule. Instructor told me this poster is getting updated and that theres a new Saturday 10am class. Front desk or website didnβt have that new class listed yet, so I signed up to a different one, Wednesday at 8am website said. While signing up, I noticed the start time was 7:30am instead. Checked with front desk, they confirmed correct time is the one at sign-up.β

βAn outstanding destination for bouldering enthusiasts. There are dedicated strength, cardio, and yoga spaces. I find my visits to be mostly pleasant. There are plenty of climbers of different levels, and you are never too far from someone to learn from. The facility also offers lockers, showers, and a gear shop. My only complaint about this location is the excessive dust and chalk buildup throughout the gym. The accumulation is much more than that of any of the other NY based Movement facilities.β

Overview
Movement Harlem offers bouldering across a range of difficulties from v-intro through advanced, with structured intro classes held on weekends. The facility includes a separate strength area, cardio equipment, yoga studios, lockers, and showers. A 15-day trial membership with included intro class lowers the barrier for first-timers. Management recently transitioned to the Movement brand, which some long-time members note has slowed route rotation.
