This is a truly exceptional children's museum. They have camps, new programming and events, and so many different areas to explore. There is an area for really little ones (crawlers and toddlers), as well as areas that appeal to many other ages. There are areas focused on creativity, engineering, movement, and more. There is a beautiful view from the rooftop as well as a water play area. Our little ones love coming here often! Great for visiting families and locals alike.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

The three floors reward children aged 2-12 with genuinely different experiences at each level β€” toddlers claim the dedicated crawl zone and rooftop water table, as school-age kids gravitate to engineering challenges and the makerspace. Children under two will find sparse programming tailored to them.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Start on the top floor for the rooftop water table as energy is highest β€” it's the biggest hit with young kids
⏰Bring a change of clothes for children who will use the rooftop water feature
🎟️EBT cardholders receive a major admission discount β€” bring the card
πŸš—The Innovation Workshop makerspace is on a fixed schedule; check session times when you arrive

β€œIf you're traveling to Santa Barbara with kids, this is a must-visit! There are plenty of activities for children from preschool to elementary school age, and it's a place where kids can have so much fun they won't even notice the time passing. There were various activities and equipment that sparked their curiosity, along with programs they could actively participate in.”

β€œthis is an awesome museum. Definitely recommend for kids so many different activities and things they could think about and learn the price is expensive but if you have an EBT card, it brings the price way down but either way definitely should go to this place if you have kids plan on spending one or two hours. I even had a great time as an adult. It’s fun for everybody.”

β€œAmazing place! Your kids will be very happy! The museum has three floors of different educational activities. There is a special place for crawling babies and toddlers. It has an arts and crafts room. Kids can play with water on the top of the roof. There is a parking lot right next to it. First 75 minutes are free and then it’s $3 per hour.”

Overview

MOXI spans three floors of hands-on STEAM exhibits ranging from projectile launching stations and engineering challenges to an arts and crafts room and makerspace workshop with both hi-tech and no-tech creation tools. A dedicated crawl-and-play area serves the youngest visitors, and the rooftop water table is a favourite across age groups. Parking in the adjacent lot includes free time before hourly rates apply, and EBT cardholders qualify for significantly reduced admission.
