1 / 2Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD)
π Brooklyn, NY
Small interactive museum in Brooklyn Bridge Park's Empire Stores building exploring the cultural history of food through hands-on exhibits, food tastings, and a VR food truck experience. Open Thursday through Sunday.
Came for the Street Food City exhibit. Very awesome interpretation and very friendly staff and volunteers. We were on vacation and this just popped up as a suggestion on Google Maps. We love all things food and decided to go to learn more about the history of NYC street food culture. The VR of the interiors of the food trucks were really cool. We've been inside food trucks before so it did give a good feeling of what it's like without the heat! Lol Recordings of sellers ssongs were very interesting. Also we liked seeing the NYC Mobile Food Vendor Guides so the public can appreciate the regulations vendors need to follow to stay safe and in business.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for curious children and families who enjoy food history and hands-on learning β the VR food truck experience and tasting stations are the highlights. A full visit takes 45β60 minutes, making it well-suited as part of a broader Brooklyn Bridge Park day.

βI just landed in New York this morning and was excited to check this place out, and it did not disappoint. They give you tasting spoons and you can try all sorts of flavors. Some were pleasant while others werenβt, but overall very informative! I enjoyed seeing my brain waves while I ate a sour candy, as well as combining the aromas of some essential oils to create the scent of coca cola. Itβs a small museum and takes less than an hour if you are reading and trying everything. Overall would definitely recommend!!β

βThis is one of the best museums I've been to that aren't the big NYC ones (i.e natural history, met, moma, etc). It's very small, it took about 50 minutes for me to finish, but we basically read through everything. There's a lot of interactive exhibits and tasting involved. It goes though the biology of flavor as well as the history of important spices. It's very underrated, it was basically empty when I went here on the weekend.β

βWe came to see the Street Food City exhibit that opened on Saturday! There's so much valuable information. It was inspiring to read all the personal stories of how the immigrant culture of food trucks is imbedded in the culture of NYC. The VR experience is a don't miss! It's truly remarkable and for sure makes you want to track down your favorite food truck for lunch afterwards. Highly recommend!!β
