Palos Verdes Stables
π Valmonte, CA
Full-service equestrian facility offering lessons, trail rides, and camps for all ages since 1926. Recent serious safety incidents involving runaway horses raise significant concerns.
Julia was an amazing trail guide! Teddy & Cupcake were both beautiful, easy horses for my daughter and me. The views are incredible. The stable is clean and the animals very well cared for. Highly recommend.
π Family Action Verdict
This venue shows extremely mixed results - while some families have wonderful experiences with great guides and well-cared horses, multiple detailed accounts of serious safety incidents involving runaway horses and hospitalizations are deeply concerning. Given the severity of reported safety issues and lack of proper protocols, families should exercise extreme caution or consider alternative riding facilities with better safety records.

βDO NOT BOOK AT THIS PLACE... Just because I have to press a star... otherwise I will give ZERO to this company. On Saturday, February 28th, a group of seven friends went to celebrate my daughter's birthday (riding a horse was her wish). As we started the trail ride, we all noticed the horses stopping every 3β5 minutes to eat and brought this to the guide's attention, asking if they had been fed. The guiders kept yelling to force the horses back in line; however, we did our best as we have no experience with horseback riding. Keep in mind that no instructions were given nor were helmets offered. We had our own hats. They did make us sign a waiver (obviously). As we were returning to the stable, we stopped briefly because one hat fell off. While the guide tried to return the hat, the front horse started running uncontrollably, followed by three more (including mine). I fell off the horse so badly that I was unconscious for a few minutes and injured my left shoulder, arm, and hand fingers. Paramedics arrived and I was transported to the hospital. My other three friends were also injured, but only two of them ended up in the hospital with severe bruises and concussion symptoms. Thank God we are alive to share our experience; however, this could have been much worse. Β One of my friends mentioned that her horse was sweaty on the way back to the stable. Another horse was dragging its leg. We believe the horses aren't treated properly. Β I have ridden horses before, but this was the worst by far. Now I have to deal with hospital bills and emotional distress due to this incident. I am so scared now. In addition, when we got back to the stable the staff was unprofessional; at no point did they ask how we were doing or apologize. The two ladies in the front office were laughing. I could hear some others in the back whispering (I assume they were talking smack about us) when they saw us as we returned to get our cars. DO NOT BOOK AT THIS PLACE.β

βDO NOT GO HORSEBACK RIDING AT THIS PLACE β YOUR LIFE MAY BE IN DANGER. On February 28, a friend of mine went with a group of seven riding to celebrate a birthday. What was meant to be a joyful experience turned into a traumatic emergency. They were given no safety instructions β only a waiver to sign. The horses looked exhausted and poorly cared for. Shortly after they began, the horses suddenly bolted out of control. Three of the friends were taken to the hospital. One crashed into a stop sign and was rushed to the ER with a possible neck injury. Another was dragged and badly injured on the pavement. Another fell and lost consciousness. My friend, also fell and suffered neck, back, and shoulder injuries. While strangers helped us and called ambulances, the staff showed no concern for their safety. They only cared about retrieving their horses. No one checked on them. No one offered help. Shortly after, they saw the same horses being used again with another group. This was negligent, dangerous, and unacceptable. For your own safety, do not ride here!!. This could have ended in tragedy. I strongly urge authorities and organizations like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to investigate whether these animals are being properly cared for and not subjected to exhaustion, hunger, or neglect.β
