Planet Rock Ann Arbor offers bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing across an expanded facility. Youth day passes available for ages 14 and under.
EDIT(latest): I recommend everyone in the area to give it a try! Since the expansion of the bouldering area this place has been great- regularly cleaned, bathrooms/shower arenβt gross at all. The route setting has been on point, bouldering area has a good range of difficulty and creativity. Top rope/lead is also good. It would be nice if there was more auto-belay routes for regular climbers, instead of the spray wall style/super easy stuff- but considering thatβs more for kids and people trying it out for the first time I get it. Iβd love it if they opened earlier during the week/Monday&Friday ORIGINAL REVIEW: This (Ann Arbor) location is EXTREMELY DIRTY - be careful not to get ring worm; I donβt understand why this is the case when their Maddison Heights location is cleaned regularly. If youβre bouldering, depending on the time, expect 1/3 - 1/2 of the routes to be blocked off. Youβd think that they would use closed hours to do this on the days they open late / close early, but no. EDIT: since expansion they have been much better - particularly the bouldering area
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids aged 7 and up who want a structured introduction to climbing. The free Climbing 101 class removes the learning barrier for newcomers. Families planning regular visits benefit significantly from the family membership tier. Solo beginners and competitive youth climbers are equally well served.

βGreat gym, good sized bouldering room and top rope room. Plenty of top rope routes. Weekly resets for bouldering. Great staff. The only downsides are that it is a bit pricey ($89/mo), and that weekday evenings can get super crowded with the students and the team kids. Personally, both of those are fine, but you do need to watch for the team kids at times. Overall a great gym, and very popular. Wheelchair accessible entry and spaces to watch climbers.β
