1 / 2SEA LIFE New Jersey Aquarium
π East Rutherford, NY
Compact aquarium in American Dream mall featuring an underwater tunnel, touch tanks with sea stars, and over 3,000 sea creatures. Perfect for younger kids with interactive exhibits and NYC-themed displays.
Few things in this world compare to the beauty of the underwater ecosystem, and fortunately for those who are fascinated by life under the sea, a trip to an aquarium will allow one to see firsthand sea creatures of all shapes and sizes, from the small but mighty seahorse to the aptly named and gently giant whale shark. While visiting the American Dream mall in East Rutherford yesterday with family from out of town, my partner, his family, and I decided to escape to Sea Life NJ by purchasing via their kiosk. Some of us havenβt visited this establishment since it first opened up 4 years ago. Upon arrival, the staff scanned our time slot tickets, and we breezed right into the elevator. Itβs a smaller, quick-visit aquarium great for an hour and managed to pack a lot into it. It is a walk-through experience where one can marvel at the aquatic animals and read fascinating information on the walls. Especially great for young kids who love interactive features and photo ops. The touch tank was one of the memorable events, being able to touch the sea anemones and starfish. The various tanks looked clean and well maintained. One can pop oneβs head up into a few tanks for fun pics. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Itβs a fantastic destination for families and ocean lovers alike.
π Family Action Verdict
This compact aquarium is perfect for families with young children (ages 2-8) who enjoy hands-on experiences. Plan for about an hour visit and consider combining with other American Dream mall activities. Best visited on weekdays or non-busy periods to avoid crowds and fully enjoy the interactive elements.

βWent on a Monday after major holiday so managed to catch the aquarium in its best state. My first impression is amazing! Clean facilities. Tanks are massive for a mall attraction. Variety of specimens was wonderful. Some people say that it was small and maybe it was but the layout of the space was so clever that we were still walking around after an hour. Would definitely go again. Bathrooms available in the space so its nice and quiet, gift shop at the end is typical toys, jewelry, snacks. Staff were available if you had questions but weren't in your face which allowed us to take our time and not feel pressured to move along.β

βThe employee at the entrance was lovely and super helpful 5 stars for just her! We have Legoland season passes so easy to scan on once you get down to the aquarium. Nice tranquil music and knowledge staff to talk about and answer questions about the animals who live there. Lots of different rooms to see the creatures, including a touch tank thatimics Alaskan waters. Also have a HUGE aquarium that has over 800 fish, super cool!β

βWe had a fun experience at SEA LIFE Aquarium and really enjoyed it after using our Legoland combo tickets. My kids, ages 2, 4, and 6, loved exploring the exhibits. The tunnel-style tanks where you can put your head inside to see the fish and other animals were especially cool. The staff were very helpful and friendly, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely a great stop for families with children!β
