This review is for the semi-private lessons offered by the parks department. I took swim lessons here and I had a great experience! To preface I am in no means a beginner swimmer, but I am an untrained one. My goals were specific which was 1) be stronger in my strokes and mainly 2) be able to do a flip turn. At the end of my sessions (10 sessions over 11 weeks). I feel like I have accomplished my goals and will in fact be continuing to swim on my own at a different gym! woo hoo! I worked with a few different instructors throughout these weeks and each were at different levels themselves, but the instructor (who I am pretty sure was not even assigned to my class but joined in to help me) with more experience closed out my weeks with me as he was better equipped for my level of help I needed. shoutout omar!!! (if you see this, apologies for missing the last class! a work event came up I was not able to miss and I had no way of reaching out to you or the other instructors!!) Regardless, I would highly recommend taking lessons here as they are were all wonderful and accommodating for the other person in class and met them at their level too. Side note: I am not docking points for cleanliness in this review because… what can you expect from a community center pool. it’s obviously going to be a scary situation, but you get what you pay for!!! i still felt like i could shower here and everything fine. shower curtains on the private showers were surprisingly clean so at least there’s that πŸ˜‚

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

This is an excellent choice for families wanting quality swim lessons, with standout instructors like Alex who excel at teaching both kids and adults from beginner to intermediate levels. The facility offers good value community programming, though expect typical community center conditions including lukewarm showers and limited parking.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Request instructor Alex if possible - consistently mentioned as exceptional
⏰Plan extra time to find parking, especially during busy lesson times
🎟️Bring flip-flops for showers as hot water is often limited to lukewarm
πŸš—Semi-private lessons available and highly recommended for personalized attention

β€œSplitting this review in two sections - lessons and facility: -Lessons: Swim lessons with Alex have taken me from being irrationally afraid of the deep end to being able to swim laps using 3 out of the 4 main strokes. His approach to teaching includes breaking concepts down to manageable segments and explaining the mechanics behind the stroke, kick etc; this aligns well with how I learn which is why I believe the lessons have helped so much. He's also very patient and tailors the lessons according to each swimmer's skill while allowing for opportunities to push yourself further. There's still work to be done but I'm happy to have conquered my fear and have the foundational skills to build upon. Also, while the majority of my lessons were with Alex, the rest of the morning coaches (Omar and Damien) have also been super helpful, patient and welcoming. -Facility: there was a stretch of time earlier in the year when the showers had no hot water. Building staff was very quick to get this fixed once notified; however the water never really got beyond lukewarm. I run cold so I never got used to it but it helps that the locker room is comfortably warm. βœŒοΈβ€

β€œI love taking swim classes here! There are various instructors but Alex is amazing!! I took swim classes with him earlier this fall and spring and had various instructors but in all my classes everyone was excited to have Alex teach / coach because he really provides an individual approach to the way he teaches all of us and I have found I was able to advance my skills far better with his instruction. I was sad to see there weren't classes this summer but I'm really hoping he is able to come back to do the adult swimming classes in the fall. Only downside to this location is that it was sometimes difficult to find parking. But I always eventually was able to find parking.”

β€œI’ve been taking swimming lessons with Coach Alex, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. He’s patient, encouraging, and really knows how to break down the techniques. I’ve seen significant improvement in my swimming skills, and his positive attitude makes each class enjoyable. Also, my child has been taking tot swimming classes with Lora and Victoria for the second semester, and she absolutely loves them! Both are amazing with kids, creating a fun and supportive environment. Highly recommend swimming classes here!”
