π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids of mixed ages β young children enjoy open skate sessions on the main floor, and older kids can plug into structured youth hockey programming. Birthday party groups are a regular fixture. Busy weekend sessions mean parking and entry lines move faster if you arrive ahead of the crowd.

βSkate City is just off Shawnee Mission Parkway and west of I35. The location is easy to get to. Parking was very full so come early. The prices were inexpensive. Refreshment price for two large drinks and a popcorn was 10.00. I believe our cost was 7.00 per person for a 2 hour session. The carpet was the cool carpet I recall from entertainment places like arcades. There were newer video games and skeeball which were all clean and in working order. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rink floor was in great shape. The skates were in good shape. Lighting was appropriate for the venue. It was a great time for our group. Only note : the table top of the table we set at was very loose.β

βUnsafe, disrespectful, and horrible management This place is a joke. One of their employees ran straight over a childβs legs with his skates, fell on top of him, got up, looked directly at the crying child β and skated off without a single apology or concern. When I confronted him and asked him to apologize, he said, βI thought he was a skate.β That excuse was ridiculous because once he got up, he clearly saw it was a child. When I said I was getting the manager, he had the nerve to say the manager would be on his side anyway. And he was. When the manager came, I explained exactly what happened to the child. Instead of addressing his employee hurting a kid, he immediately started lecturing me about how youβre not supposed to be on the floor without skates on. Completely ignored the fact that his worker had just injured a child and showed zero remorse. I asked if he was at least going to apologize to the childβs mother β and instead of taking responsibility, he put me out of the building. So let that sink in: a child gets run over, no one apologizes, and the customer gets kicked out. On top of all that, the bathrooms are disgusting and the building is falling apart. This place is unsafe, the staff is rude, and the management clearly does not care about their customers β especially children. I will never step foot in Skate City again.β
