“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Smithsonian National Zoo is a must-visit in DC! It’s one of the few places where you can see world-class wildlife for free, making it an unbeatable outing for families or anyone showing friends around the city. My Experience: The Highlights: Even with kids in tow, we managed to hit the big ones. The David M. Rubenstein Family Giant Panda Habitat is a major draw—seeing Bao Li and Qing Bao was worth the nearly hour-long wait! We also loved the Gorilla House, the Small Mammal Pavilion, and catching a glimpse of the elephants. The Vibe: The grounds are beautifully green and well-maintained. The trees provide great shade, which makes strolling comfortable even on a sunny day. The educational signs are clear and engaging, so you actually learn a bit while you explore. Cleanliness: I was impressed by how clean the entire park felt. There are plenty of snack spots and rest areas, which are lifesavers when you’re walking a lot with children. Pro-Tips: Footwear: Definitely wear your best walking shoes. The zoo is huge (163 acres!), and you’ll easily spend a full day here if you want to see everything. Navigation: Be aware that there aren't a ton of physical maps once you're inside. It can be a little confusing at first, so I’d recommend downloading the map from their website ahead of time. Timing: For popular spots like the Panda House, try to go early to beat the longest lines. Overall, it’s a wonderful, high-quality experience that’s unique to DC. It’s a place you can visit again and again and always find something new to enjoy.”

“We really loved this place. There was some disappointment because it was cold and rainy and a lot of the animals were not out . Plus we couldn't see the baby elephant and that made us sad. We were happy that it wasn't over crowded. We were happy to see animals with proper enclosures and being taken care of so well. Really wish there had been some hands on animals. Also, as a recent heart attack survivor- this is probably not the place to visit unless your are physically ready. There wasn't any motor carts and it is uphill the whole way and then you have to walk back down. The food trucks were all closed so there was no food either. Parking was 30 bucks. I don't know. ... I'm only giving it 5 stars because of how well the animals are cared for. The snapping turtle was the only one I could tell definitely needed a bigger space. But maybe he has a night tank and then sits in the display during the day? I dunno.”

“Took a trip to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and it was such a great experience. First off, it’s free, which already puts it in win territory. The grounds are huge, well kept, and easy to walk, and there’s something cool around every corner. The animals looked well cared for, the exhibits felt natural, and there were plenty of shaded spots to take breaks. We spent hours just wandering, checking out everything, and soaking it all in without feeling rushed. It’s perfect whether you’re with kids, on a date, or just looking for something fun to do in DC. Staff were friendly, the place was clean, and the whole vibe was relaxed and enjoyable. Definitely one of those spots you can visit more than once and still have a great time. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.”
