1 / 3Tanaka Farms
π Turtle Rock, CA
Family-owned Irvine farm offering U-pick produce tours on tractor-pulled wagons, barnyard animal encounters, goat yoga, seasonal lantern festivals, and special breakfast events. Outdoor venue.
Family owned almost heritage farm, opens during most holidays for other events. We came her for a Hikari Lantern festival, a perfect winter night time event. What would be fallow or dormant fields are decorated with lots of festive lanterns, especially over the cornfield maze, and many other brightly decorated fields and growing gardens. Lots of included activities : free petting zoo (most farm animals were still awake, and the friendliest were the goats and donkey), included tractor pull ride took you around the well decorated fields, past a huge stand of banana trees, several Christmas trees on display (they only light up with a cheerful yell of Merry Christmas!), and a "snow" machine pumping out flakes of "snow" to the rocking holiday music, plus a gift of mandarin Satsuma oranges for each person. Onsite activities that required tickets to be purchased ($3 each, some activities need 2 or 3 per person) : arts and crafts, a T-shirt of tote bag heat transfer for purchase ($25 for a child's t shirt to $40 adult sizes), carnival type games and a grill. Alcoholic beverages were also available to purchase. Bring a warm jacket (the nighttime temperatures dipped to low 50's and less), bundle up as well as you can in your most festive attire! It's a real farm, so the ground is rocky or uneven in many spots. Bring comfortable walking shoes that you don't mind getting muddy.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 2 and up who want a genuine farm experience beyond a petting zoo. U-pick tours with tractor rides are the core draw β plan around the seasonal calendar for strawberries or specialty events. The lantern festival is a standout evening option for all ages. Outdoor terrain requires appropriate footwear.

βMy family and I went to the lights festival last weekend and we enjoyed it very much! I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area especially if you have little ones. I have a tiny suggestion. The CSA booth was distributing Christmas light necklaces to their members. One suggestion I have for them is to consider also selling these necklaces to non-members. This could help them raise the money needed to buy the necklaces (or for other expenses) and it will bring more cheer to some little visitors who don't understand the concept of exclusivity yet. My little one was devastated when we were told that we couldn't buy one. This ruined the outing for him. I know, it's a life lesson for him (you can't have everything you want), but I'm OK with him skipping that lesson during this particular outing :)β

βMy family and I went to Tanaka Farms on the morning of February 14 for breakfast, and we had a great time. We were a little unprepared for how cold it was, but it honestly did not take away from the experience at all. The farm is beautiful and very peaceful. Everything is well organized and welcoming. The tractor ride was a lot of fun and something our whole family enjoyed. It was nice to ride through the farm, take in the scenery, and just enjoy being there together. We had breakfast at the grill. The pancakes are great highly recommend. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. We really enjoyed ourselves and are glad we went. Tanaka Farms is a wonderful place to visit, especially with family, and we would definitely come back again.β

βI thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Tanaka Farms. This historic venue is a must-see in Irvine! The strawberries were super sweet, and the sight-seeing wagon tour was so fun. I enjoyed the barnyard and all of the animals there. I canβt wait to go back for the future events!β

Overview
Tanaka Farms runs seasonal U-pick tours via tractor wagon through active strawberry and vegetable fields. The barnyard features animals for close-up encounters. Special events include lantern festivals with corn maze illuminations, Valentine's breakfast sessions, storytime programs, and goat yoga at the Hana Field location. Produce stand on-site. Uneven terrain throughout β closed-toe shoes recommended.
