1 / 3Tarr Family Playground
📍 Manhattan, NY
Adventure-style Central Park playground split into zones for younger and older children. Features tall slides, net climbers, wooden treehouses, an interactive water feature, and sandy surfaces. Free entry, toddler-friendly. No restrooms on-site.
A unique playground located in Central Park towards the west side. I liked it because it was clean and it wasn’t crowded during busy summer months.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children 4 and older who enjoy physical, exploratory play. The tall slides and wall-climb access add real challenge without being unsafe. Toddlers can join with supervision, and the uncrowded atmosphere makes it easier to track kids across the space. Plan bathroom stops before arriving — no restrooms are nearby.

“Amazing playground. Best for kids 4 and older, but an adventurous 2 or 3 year old can have lots of fun as well. Has some swings for younger kids and two amazing tall slides that you can only access by climbing a wall or stairs. On the downside, there are no restrooms here nor nearby. There are some sprinklers and several different sandboxes. Actually, most structures are either directly on the sand or on a sandy terrain. There are several long trees on the west of the playground, so if it is a very hot day I would only come in the afternoon. Overall, a very solid choice for the upper upper west side.”

Overview
Tarr Family Playground occupies a corner of Central Park with distinct play zones bridged by a walking path. Tall slides require climbing a wall or stairs to access. Net climbing structures, wooden treehouses, and an interactive water feature fill out the space. Sandy ground covers most of the play area. Less crowded than other Central Park playgrounds during peak summer months.
