1 / 2Terry Hershey Park
📍 Westside, TX
Free linear park along Buffalo Bayou in west Houston with miles of paved shaded trails, consistent squirrel, bird, and rabbit sightings, and pram-accessible paths throughout. No playground equipment on site.
Great trails. We did a 10 mile walk and had a Pleasant experience. Almost all trails were shaded and despite being a warm day, didn’t feel too hot. Trails were near and tidy too.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Families with older children who can sustain multi-mile walks or bike rides through a nature corridor will find this park deeply rewarding. Toddler families using prams can cover shorter sections comfortably from any trailhead.

“This place is absolutely amazing — full of rolling hills, bunnies, and beautiful running trails. I actually trained for my half marathon here! It’s always so peaceful. If you prefer to avoid crowds, go early in the morning around 7 a.m. The sun can be strong on certain parts of the trail, so be sure to wear a hat and dress appropriately. I brought my son with me yesterday — he wasn’t up for running, but he still walked three miles with me!”

“This park is a long stretch of paved cement. It's spacious and never crowded. Even during the weekend there are always people with zero trail etiquette for others, and written park rules, however they're far and in between. There's lots of woods so it's nice for shaded walks when it's too warm out. I enjoy the wild flowers and the surprise of a Herron or rabbit from time to time. This park and trail is perfect for active meditation.”

“We enjoy our daily walks in the park. The nature & wildlife are a pleasant break from the city. My dog loves it when the weather isn’t so hot. Only downside is cyclists who oftentimes ride in packs & travel way too fast.”
