1 / 2The Picture House - Pelham
π Pelham Heights, NY
Non-profit community cinema in a preserved 1921 Spanish revival building. Screens independent, documentary, and classic films. Private whole-theater rentals available for birthday parties. Snack prices run below chain cinema rates.
The Picture House Regional Film Center is a wonderful historic theater based in Pelham, New York. In November of 2023, I brought and treated my wife and myself to the theater to attend and watch βThe Marvelsβ and we very much enjoyed our moviegoing experience. The theaterβs staff were very friendly and kindly welcomed us in when we arrived. We found the auditorium to be clean, quite spacious and our seats were very comfortable. Other nice features of the the Picture House is that it is based in a very beautiful and quiet neighborhood, street side parking is ready available, and snacks and beverages are offered at very reasonable prices. When reading about the history of the Picture House, both my wife and I learned that the building was built in 1921 with Spanish revival architectural features, and initially operated as a private theater. Thanks to the amazing efforts of the civic minded Westchester residents, the theater was saved from potential demolition and it has functioned as a nonprofit film center since the early 2000βs, featuring films and educational programs. Additional efforts are being made to invest and revitalize the theater. Both my wife and I regard the Picture House to be an amazing gem & treasure of Westchester County and we highly recommended for everyone to visit and watch films at this superb theater!!!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who want a genuinely intimate cinema experience away from multiplexes, and for parents planning a memorable kids' birthday party with a full private screening. All ages fit comfortably. The historic building adds real character that chain cinemas cannot match.

βI just visited The Picture House last night for the first time. On a whim, I decided to see the Bob Dylan movie. I couldn't believe it... I was the only one in the whole theater! Maybe it was too cold for everyone else to venture out. Anyway, I thought the theater was fantastic. It's local to where I live, the seats were comfortable without being so comfortable that it risks putting me to sleep, and the sound and video quality were great. I also thought there was a great selection of snacks and drinks. I would rather go here ANY day than an AMC. Check this place out!β

βHad my sonβs birthday party here. Such a fun time. The staff were amazing. The entire venue was so cool. The kids had the whole theater to themselves. Such a great time. Thank you.β
