1 / 2Top Out Climbing Gym
π Saugus, CA
Indoor climbing gym with auto-belay walls, a 100-foot steep bouldering section, and routes reset every Wednesday by professional setters. Beginners' fundamentals classes and equipment rentals on-site. Ages 5+.
Absolutely love this hidden gem. I brought my 11 yo as a gift and we ended up becoming members and are obsessed. This is not only physically challenging (and advances at your own pace), but itβs mentally challenging as well which makes it so unique and fun. This facility is so extensive so you have a lot of options for climbing and they change up the rocks so you always have new paths to try out. On top of all of this they have excercise stuff everywhere so you can just work out if you want and they offer yoga and stretching classes upstairs. Last, there are so many people who work there and they are all very cool down to earth people who you can tell really enjoy climbing too. They are so helpful, love talking about climbing and make the experience that much better. Itβs so much fun and has surprisingly been a really cool hobby my son and I both really enjoy. I wish we would have gone sooner!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids 5+ who want a physical and mental challenge they can build on over time. The auto-belay system means a solo parent can climb alongside children without a belay partner. Staff are consistently flagged for warmth and helpfulness with new and young climbers.

βLove this gym! I've been climbing casually for a year or so and recently joined a group called Dry Rock that does monthly meetups at my home gym and Top Out, so decided to come check this gym out. I'm so glad I did! I normally only boulder since I like the flexibility of going by myself but the auto-belay option was great and I got some solid climbs in that I normally don't get to do. I also did some bouldering and really liked the routes. The staff Sean and Alex were super friendly and helpful in getting me started on the auto-belays. I also ended up chatting with Sean and he figured out my level pretty quickly and pointed out some good routes for me - I got some of them but not all so now I need to come back and get them! He's a super great guy and I appreciated his upbeat energy.β

βTop Out Climbing Gym is a fantastic indoor facility. Itβs one of the few gyms that offers auto belay, which is a great feature. The bouldering here is top-notchβthe setters clearly know what theyβre doing. The walls are fairly tall for bouldering, with the highest one reaching 18 feet, so falling from that height is definitely not ideal. The gym also has Moon and Tension boards, as well as some free weights and exercise equipment. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downside is that itβs too far from where I live to make it my home gym.β

βThis is a great facility, clean, well maintained, safe and friendly. I took my five year old for the first time to try rock climbing with his uncle and he had a blast. The staff is friendly and helpful and the vibe with other climbers is really cool, everyone was so friendly and supportive of new and young climbers. I also saw that new routes get set every Wednesday so I am told it is always a fresh feel on the walls. We will be going back.β
