1 / 3Aviary
đ Queens, NY
Immersive bird habitat inside a historic geodesic dome at the Queens Zoo. Walk among free-flying scarlet macaws, sun conures, sandhill cranes, cattle egrets, and black-crowned night herons on elevated walkways. Best visited May through August.
The aviary was the most exciting part of my visit to the Queens Zoo! I was able to see the beautiful birds in the aviary! Such wonderful colors! The space is incredibly amazing! We walked the long ramps to the top! We were able to do our birdwatching and look for and find them up high and all over! What an amazing experience!
đ Family Action Verdict
A memorable stop for families with children curious about birds â the free-flying macaws and cranes at close range on the elevated ramps are genuinely exciting for most kids. The historic dome setting adds context for older children.

âMy mom and I have been to this place and that it was a nice day and then once entered into the place follow the long ramps and saw lots of beautiful birds in the aviary. Also, that there were people there looking there and taking pictures of the wonderful birds.â

âThe aviary inside Flushing Meadows Park's Queens Zoo here in Queens is a cool place & the best time going there is mostly late Spring in May to late Summer in August going into Labor Day weekend in my opinion.â

Overview
The Queens Zoo Aviary occupies a geodesic dome built for the 1964 World's Fair. Inside, visitors walk on elevated ramps through the habitat of free-flying birds including scarlet macaws, sun conures, sandhill cranes, and black-crowned night herons. The ramp system takes visitors up through different height levels where birds perch and fly across the open space. Late spring through late summer is the recommended window for the fullest experience.
