Citywide Aquatics
π Northeast Los Angeles, CA
This is an administrative office for LA's aquatic programs, not an actual swimming pool. Contact them to find locations of the city's 54+ actual pools and aquatic facilities.
This review is for whoever owns/runs their PlayLA Kayak/Surf/Paddleboard class. It is extremely unorganized and thereβs no real way to reach the owners and instructors. The numbers/staff redirect you to different places or to numbers that donβt work at all. We attended two weeks. The first week was a bust. No instructors present when we arrived. Instruction wasnβt provided until 10. Classes were ending at 11:30 everyday, which was too early for a program thatβs supposed to run 9-2pm. I emailed and they spoke with staff. Update!: Week 2 = huge improvement! On the first day there was a pop up tent that said PlayLA making the group easier to identify. There was ample staff, classes ended later both days, and they even pulled out the paddle boards. All of the staff this week has been great with the children, communicating well with each other, and working hard.
π Family Action Verdict
This listing appears to be misleading - it's an administrative office for LA's aquatic programs, not an actual swimming pool facility. Families looking for swimming should contact them to find actual pool locations, though be prepared for communication challenges.

βI've wondered for a long time why this place continues to say there's an actual swimming pool there.. From what I can tell this is solely an administrative office for all City of LOS ANGELES swimming pools and aquatic programs! Why the site never says this I have no idea! Even more astounding are those reviews saying how great it is and how helpful the staff is! Where are these delusional people at? Is it a cyber pool? Some place near it that is private? A Secret Pool known only to a select few? The main Griffith Park Pool has been sitting unopened since the beginning of COVID 19, next to the tennis courts across the street from the main entrance at Los Feliz Blvd and Riverside Drive. There are (as far as I know.) two other pools inside the park but they are not open to the general public! One is at the former Boys camp and the other is at the girls camp. I'm not sure if they are open at all any more, or if the public can ever use them. But the terrible state of the main pool (which has an historical entrance/office with beautiful vintage tiles and fixtures!) is apparently to become a victim of demolition by neglect. In other words, the powers that be will allow it to become so decrepit that they will be justified tearing it down and building a new, very ugly one, instead of saving any part of the old one. Call the city councilperson . I'm persona non grata at this time! So be a good citizen and please try to save it. It's time is short. When it's gone, well there goes another piece of our city's past.β
