Congo Gorilla Forest
đ The Bronx, NY
Immersive forest habitat at the Bronx Zoo where families observe gorillas metres away through floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Young gorillas wrestle and play as adults rest nearby in a lushly designed Congo rainforest setting.
Great zoo facility. Was really impressed at this gorilla habitat, that looked exactly like a real forest. The gorillas look very healthy and well cared. The exhibit offers the opportunity to be at only meters away from the gorillas, separated just by glass. The experience of being so close to them really touched me, and greatly raised my awareness of the importance of the protection of these wonderful creatures.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children who can observe quietly and appreciate animal behaviour â the glass proximity makes encounters feel genuinely immersive rather than distant zoo viewing. The experience depends on gorilla activity levels, which are highest in the morning.

âSeeing gorillas is amazing! They walked over and interacted with people through the glass. The older gorillas seemed relaxed while the young were all over the place, wrestling, jumping around and tusling with each other. I was not able to visit the whole zoo, but, I felt this is the best part of the park.â

âAn amazing exhibit where you can see (and sometimes interact with) full-grown gorillas up close. My son loves coming here, especially when the Gorillas are in a playful (or interactive) mood.â

Overview
Congo Gorilla Forest recreates a Central African rainforest habitat where multiple gorilla family groups live in large naturalistic enclosures. Viewing is through floor-to-ceiling glass walls that bring visitors within metres of the animals â gorillas regularly approach the glass, particularly younger ones who play and wrestle nearby. The exhibit extends beyond gorillas to include other Congo species across several connected habitat zones.
