1 / 2Cosley Zoo
π Wheaton, IL
A small, manageable zoo on five acres featuring farm animals and native Illinois wildlife including deer, foxes, and owls. Ideal for toddlers and young children who want an hour-long outing without getting overwhelmed.
Came here with our daughter and her little ones on a very not busy day - we were literally the only ones walking around the zoo at one point - which made it great to spend time with each of the animals. This is a really small zoo but with what I saw and their AZA affiliation they seem to be doing a good job with taking care of their animals. I think the highlights for me were the Norwegian fjord horse and the American kestrel. They certainly deserve support so I certainly recommend! Thereβs a nice little gift shop to check out as well.
π Family Action Verdict
This is an ideal zoo for families with toddlers and young children who want a manageable, hour-long outing. The small size prevents little ones from getting overwhelmed while still offering variety including farm animals, owls, and lynx. Visit early on weekends to avoid crowds and parking issues.

βNice little exhibit thatβs open year-round, and the animals are always active when we visit. Itβs a cool small zoo thatβs clearly well taken care of. The animals look healthy and well cared for, and the grounds are clean and easy to walk through. The staff is more than nice theyβre friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. Definitely a well-deserved local spot to check out!β

βFor families with toddlers and young children, this zoo is perfect. We visited on a Saturday as soon as they opened and it was not too crowded. They have a variety of wildlife, as well as farm animals. The different species of owls and the lynx were especially cool to see. The zoo is small, and we spent about 1 hour there with our 19-month old, so it was the perfect size for us.β

βWe loved Cosley Zoo so much, we became members after our first visit. We have a toddler and itβs the perfect place for him to burn off some energy and view different farm animals up close. It has a small parking lot and things can get pretty busy on the weekends, but itβs a nice little gem in the burbs.β
