I had to kill 30-45 minutes here on a chilly Sunday morning. There was some sort of charity run going on at the school to provide easy rock music. The water was turned off at the fountain. But the frogs looked freshly painted and were excellent to climb on. 6 swings. A pretty ok playground for little kids. Bathroom.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

This is an ideal spot for families with toddlers and younger children seeking a low-key, community playground experience. The frog-themed water features make it especially appealing during warmer months, though parents should manage expectations as it's a modest, older playground rather than a modern destination. Best for local families or those looking for a peaceful stop while exploring the larger Kissena Corridor Park area.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

Bring shade/sun protection as the playground lacks extensive shade structures
🎟️Six swings available but may fill up during peak times
🚗Bathrooms and water fountain on-site though fountain functionality can be inconsistent

Stopped in for a drink of water as I biked through. The water fountain was refreshing - the kids looked to be enjoying the spray frogs 🙂

Holy Cow Playground, tucked into Fresh Meadows at Peck Avenue between 61st Road and 67th Avenue, is a charming and community-centric play space part of the larger Kissena Corridor Park . Spanning approximately 2.7 acres, this family-friendly playground—established in the 1940s—offers a peaceful spot amid mature trees and open areas . Playground & Amenities The playground features a colorful set of play structures suitable for toddlers and younger children—think slides, climbers, swings, even playful frog sculptures that double as informal spray-water features in summer . There are six swings, a water fountain, plus safe rubberized surfacing near equipment. A single full basketball court lies within sight of the playground, alongside nearby handball and soccer areas and a paved running path typical of Cunningham Park corridors . Cleanliness & Maintenance Park condition scores hover in the mid‑80s (out of 100) for cleanliness and safety . Visitors appreciate its upkeep, although some reviews mention occasional maintenance gaps—like non‑functioning fountains or dated equipment—but overall find it “modest,” clean, and functional . Atmosphere & Use Holy Cow Playground enjoys a serene, treed setting, adjacent to St. Francis Prep and within walking distance of Cunningham Park. It’s popular with families and casual exercisers—joggers and dog walkers alike—seeking a low-key, accessible play spot . The playground’s frog-themed embellishments offer a whimsical touch fondly remembered by locals . Pros & Cons 👍 Highlights • Bright, engaging equipment including swings, slides, and playful frog figures • Sprinkler/fountain appeals during warmer months • Shared usage with adjacent sports courts and easy access to larger parkland • Midsize size offers manageable supervision for parents 👎 Considerations • Equipment shows its age with limited modernization or recent capital improvement • Maintenance can be inconsistent—water features are sometimes down • Lacks shade structures or extensive landscaping—a simple, unadorned site ⸻ Summary Holy Cow Playground is a small but endearing Brooklyn(?) Queens spot grounded in local history and community. Its blend of classic swings, slides, splash-ready frog elements, and nearby court facilities make it a reliable destination for families. It’s not flashy or recently renovated—but that low-key, old-school charm is precisely what gives it character. If you’re in Fresh Meadows or nearby, this little playground is a lovable, easygoing choice—even if you’re just passing through Cunningham Park or need a quick outdoor break with the kids.
