1 / 2Indian Boundary Park Playground
📍 West Ridge, IL
Enclosed nature play space in Chicago's Indian Boundary Park, built on a former zoo site. Features natural materials like stumps, rocks, and branches alongside castle-themed structures, plus a pond with fish and turtles.
Beautiful Park with wonderful and friendly people. 10 stars
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with young children who thrive in open-ended, nature-based play environments. The pond with fish and turtles is a reliable draw for curious kids. The castle structure shows wear and some traditional equipment needs maintenance, and the natural play elements remain fully functional.

“Located near the northwest corner of Indian Boundary Park, this enclosed area - the site of a former zoo in the park! - has been converted to a Nature Play Space. This space contains natural materials and small, simple structures created with natural elements (think stumps, rocks, and branches) to encourage open-ended play in a natural setting. The hours are somewhat limited (I won't risk summarizing them here!) but the space is a wonderful place to explore and engage with young children. Highly recommend.”

“There's a little pond, with fishes and turtles. Although, I would like to see an alligator instead of boring fish.”

“The castle park and pond it's starting to fall apart alittle but the kids still love it. I would love to see them fix it back up! Please keep the shape I have been going here for many, many years and it has been a castle so please don't change that. But it does need fixing..”

Overview
Indian Boundary Park's enclosed playground occupies the footprint of a former zoo in the park's northwest corner. The nature play area uses natural elements — stumps, rocks, branches — for open-ended exploration rather than fixed equipment. A castle-themed play structure anchors the space, and a small pond nearby holds fish and turtles visible from the path. Free entry with pram access. Hours for the enclosed Nature Play Space are sparse.
