1 / 3Laemmle Royal
đ Sawtelle, CA
Independent cinema in West LA screening art-house, foreign, and documentary films with director Q&As and special events. Comfortable seating and a civilized atmosphere suit families with teens.
Long-standing venue for independent and foreign films. Excellent variety of films, comparable prices, reasonably comfortable seats. Post-pandemic, not well-attended, such that their viability may be in question. Parking can be a bit challenging. Good neighborhood options nearby for a meal before or after a film.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with teenagers and film-curious older children who want something beyond mainstream multiplex programming. Director Q&As and premiere screenings add genuine cultural value. Check each film's rating and subject matter carefully â the independent and foreign film slate frequently covers mature themes unsuitable for young children.

âIf you're tired of superhero movies, come here. They keep the art-house spirit alive in West LA. The seating is reasonably comfortable and the overall experience is just very civilized.â

âIt was a great new experience with lots of people it was definitely known by many locals. The theater it self was pretty cool and old school with many pictures on the wall and the seats were comfortable. The atmosphere was great. Popcorn wasn't great however the service was. I would definitely go back the place has lots of history and it plays movie's that don't play in most local theaters. Bathroom could of been a little cleaner but with an old building I guess it was ok.â
