Just went to the newly reopen Landmark (old Laemmle) theater and very impressed with the renovations! The new interior is sleek, clean, the cinemas themselves have awesome new, spacious, and comfortable seats. Great spacing between chairs, easy to get in and out. I appreciate there are fences between rows, don't have to worry about my seat back ever getting kicked. The movie we saw had no technical problems, sound was great, couldn't see any pixelation on the screen (a problem I had with the Laemmle's old projectors,) nice DARK paint job making for very little ambient light reflections around the room, and subdued lighting before/after showings in a nicer transition than big bright flood lights coming on. Between the new seats, decor, and technical upgrades, this was probably the most comfortable movie experience I've had in a while at a cinema. The time / renovations Landmark put into the cinema were worth it! All for a little cheaper than nearby AMC theaters too! I'll be coming back for future movie viewings for sure! Only nitpicks I can think of are that while the new projectors are bright, they don't have the best black level leading to some slight muddiness in DARK scenes, but that's more of a limitation of the projection technology and not just a problem here. Also, if you're watching a quiet movie and you happen to be next to a showing of a loud action film, you will hear some slight low whumps now and then bleeding through the wall. The sound isolation is very good overall though, our cinema was dead quiet on its own, we just heard some very quiet booms from Avatar next door lol -- That's going to happen in smaller cinemas like this so like I said, this is just a nitpick.

šŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families wanting a comfortable cinema experience with spacious reclining seats — particularly suited for longer films where seating matters. Free parking and pram access make it practical for parents with young children. Beer and wine availability appeals to adults, and pricing runs below nearby multiplexes.

ā€œWhen I went up to purchase a ticket I was informed the showing for the movie I wanted to watched was completely sold out. I was perplexed and disappointed as my schedule was a little busy that day and couldn't catch a later showing. However, the employee later came up to me and told me she had made a mistake. To make it up she gave me a discount for my ticket. I appreciate her service and professionalism.ā€

ā€œI’m glad my local cinema in Pasadena reopened, and I’m glad Landmark put in the resources to completely revamp the theaters and lobby. The new lounger seats, sound, and projection are great, and the staff are all so kind and helpful. I hope the restrooms, and the strange latch to open the door, are worked on next — but baby steps!ā€

ā€œI went today to watch Megan with my sister. The theater felt like brand new! Our biggest surprise was when we found out that the seat are a recliner! The staff was great and friendly. I glad that we decided to watch a movie here. I definitely will be back!ā€

Landmark Pasadena Playhouse underwent a full renovation with new reclining lounger seats, updated sound systems, and improved projection. Beer and wine available at concessions. An on-site cafe operates in the lobby. Free parking on-site. The theater is pram-accessible and toddler-friendly. Some sound bleed between auditoriums has been noted during loud films.
