1 / 3Last Chance Pond Park
📍 Staten Island, NY
A small wildlife refuge and nature park featuring walking trails, recently developed from reclaimed land between Staten Island neighborhoods and Hylan Boulevard.
I grew up in the neighborhood of this park. At that time, this was a large empty lot with abandoned cars and garbage. It was great to see the land cleaned up and developed into a nature park, not high density housing!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
This is better suited for older children interested in nature observation rather than active play, as it's primarily a wildlife refuge with restricted access. Families should expect a brief viewing experience rather than a traditional park visit with playground equipment or extensive trails.

“This area is a natural watershed or blue belt collecting stormwater from the area. it is basically in its natural state with various ponds. The water drains eventually into the Atlantic Ocean.”

“Recently excavated and cleaned of household rubbish, tires and cigarette packs— this area is off limits to the public as multiple gates are padlocked . The water runoff comes from theNew Creek water shed project which prevents flooding of low lying areas. It is more of a wildlife refuge.”
