1 / 2Philadelphia Zoo
π Philadelphia, NY
Founded in 1874, Philadelphia Zoo spans 42 acres with over 1,900 rare and endangered species. Big Cat Falls, Zoo 360 overhead trails, and wide shaded paths through mature trees define the experience.
Incredible zoo was really surprised how big it is, so much to see. The big cats part is so impressive with tunnels for the big cats to walk over where youβre walking. Otters was my favourite part! We came at such a quiet time and was perfect for us to get close with all the animals with no queue.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who want a classic, unhurried zoo experience with genuine historic character. The overhead cat tunnels at Big Cat Falls and Zoo 360 trails create moments other zoos don't offer. Wide shaded paths suit prams and multi-generational groups.

βThis zoo feels very different from some of the newer, more βtheme-park styleβ zoos. You can really tell itβs one of the oldest zoos in the U.S., but in a good way β lots of mature trees, wide walking paths, and a calm atmosphere that makes it easy to spend a few hours without feeling rushed. The animal variety is solid, and some exhibits allow you to observe the animals at fairly close range, which makes it more engaging than I expected. Itβs also easy to walk around without constantly backtracking, which I really appreciated. What I liked most is that itβs enjoyable even without kids. You can just walk, watch the animals, and take your time. Overall, a very pleasant and relaxing zoo experience, and definitely worth a visit if youβre in Philadelphia.β

βHadn't been to the Zoo in quite a while and made a spontaneous trip on a warm February afternoon this past Saturday. America's oldest zoo still has the magic that it had close to 50 years ago when I first came on a class tip. Great and varied collection of animals/exhibits, and the Zoo 360 overhead trails are an innovative way to add something new for the visitors (and the residents, of course). Big Cat falls continues to impress, and an added bonus was to see the 1 year old tortoises as part of the Hatch Day celebration. May just have to come back this summer after Bear Country re-opens!β

βWe visited the Philadelphia Zoo, and it was an awesome experience! We enjoyed a lot and had such a fun time exploring all the animal exhibits. The zoo is clean, well-organized, and perfect for families. We loved seeing so many unique animals up close, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout. Itβs a great place to spend the day and learn while having fun. We definitely recommend visiting! π¦π―π΅πΏβ
