1 / 2Western Museum of Flight
π Torrance, CA
Aviation museum inside two aircraft hangars at Torrance Airport showcasing Southern California aerospace heritage, including one of only two YF-23 fighter prototypes, an F-5 cockpit visitors can sit in, and expert docents.
A great museum for any airplane or aerospace enthusiast. The YF-23 (PAV 2) is the main feature here. The $10 donation for admittance was well worth it. There was also an F5, A4, etc. The museum is inside of two large aircraft hangars and you could easily spend about an hour walking through and taking photos. The other reviews mention the locked gate, but forget to mention that the staff buzz you in right away, itβs no inconvenience at all. It makes sense given itβs inside of an airport.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children who are genuinely interested in aviation history and aerospace engineering β the YF-23, F-5 cockpit access, and expert docents deliver experiences that aviation-passionate kids remember. Younger children without a strong interest in planes will find the exhibit scope narrow.

βThis is a gem of a museum. They have some interesting stuff, much of it from Northrop Grumman, including one of only two YF-23 fighter competition prototypes. They have an F-5 you can sit in, and it's in great condition. Their docents are excellent -- cheerful, knowledgeable, and eager to share their knowledge and point out interesting nuances of the museum's collection.β

βOMG my nephew had a great time he is geek when it comes to airplanes and I'm glad he enjoyed himself. Tim was a great guide and knowledgeable. My nephew wants to one day go to flight school and own a plane so this was definitely a great experience. Thank you!β
