Wild Asia Monorail
π The Bronx, NY
Guided 20-minute monorail journey through the Bronx Zoo's Wild Asia section, with sightings of elephants, tigers, rhinos, and hooved mammals in large naturalistic enclosures. Shaded, open-air carriages suit all ages.
The Wild Asia Monorail is one of the highlights of the Bronx Zoo! The ride lasts around 20 minutes and takes you through a beautiful, lush landscape where animals roam freely in large, naturalistic habitats. We saw elephants, rhinos, deer, monkeys, and more β all from the comfort of a shaded, open-air train. The commentary along the way was both informative and engaging, and our kids (ages 7 and 9) were absolutely fascinated. Itβs a perfect mix of learning and fun, and a great way to rest your feet while still enjoying the zoo.
π Family Action Verdict
A standout for families visiting the Bronx Zoo β the narrated format keeps younger children engaged, and the scale of the enclosures impresses older kids and adults. Arrive before midday to avoid lines that stretch to 30-45 minutes by early afternoon. Tiger sightings require a sharp eye; elephants and hooved mammals are reliably visible.

βWorth the wait and the line moves along at a good pace. The tour is guided along the Bronx river . You will see many species of hooves mammals ; deer, goats and horses from around the world. If you have a watchful eye you may see a tiger . The elephants and the hippos are some of the favorites.β

βDefinitely go before 1pm if you don't want to wait in 30-45 min lines. Generally you will see all the animals but sometimes they may be far away or obstructed by trees. The drivers try to be fun and engaging pointing out the animals on the rideβ

Overview
The Wild Asia Monorail glides through lush habitats along the Bronx River, where elephants, tigers, rhinos, deer, and goats from across Asia roam in expansive enclosures. Drivers narrate throughout, pointing out animals and sharing habitat context. The ride runs 15-20 minutes in shaded open-air cars β a genuine rest for tired legs mid-zoo-day. Animals are sometimes distant or screened by trees; patient scanning pays off.
