The pool, the pool, the pool. Like Goldilocks, I have tried other pools. The Dodge Y, the Chinatown Y, Chelsea Piers, pools in my apartment building. To quote the late Sinead O'Connor, nothing compares. I trained for two triathlons here, so know the bottom of this pool intimately. And the pool is always clean, perfectly maintained, and a joy! It's Olympic-sized. What I like is that there's typically not a lot of crowding in the lap lanes, so you don't run into the (common) issue of other swimmers tickling your toes or slowing your rhythm. Swimming at Asphalt Green is a mermaid's dream.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families seeking quality sports programs and swimming facilities who can afford premium pricing. The Olympic pool is exceptional for serious swimmers and the sports programs offer good variety for kids of all ages. However, expect crowds during after-school hours and budget significantly for memberships and training.

â„šī¸ What to Know Before You Go

💡Street parking is very limited - consider using nearby garages ($15/block)
⏰Pool gets crowded with kids' classes until 8pm - plan adult swimming accordingly
đŸŽŸī¸Personal training is expensive ($700+ for members, $800+ for non-members for 4 months)
🚗Facilities include clean bathrooms, vending machines, and picnic areas

“Attended a soccer game. The field is turf and very fast. They have basketball courts too. Plenty of picnic tables and a vending machine. Indoor clear bathrooms are available.i noticed the engineers came through to clear any garbage and maintain cleanliness. Parking is on the street and very limited. Used a local garage for 15 one block away.”

“Asphalt Green is an exceptional destination for children of all ages, providing a fun and engaging environment to learn various sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, and karate. Adults can enjoy the top-notch gym and Olympic-size swimming pool, making it an outstanding choice for fitness. Additionally, Spear Physical Therapy, located on the 5th floor, offers comprehensive services and accepts all insurances, including Medicare. However, it's important to note that the pricing can be quite high, especially when seeking a personal trainer. For public members, the cost is $832.50, while members pay $707.63 for four months. One daily session may not be practical, as they only offer training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with added costs on those days. Moreover, Asphalt Green currently does not provide discounts for seniors or individuals with disabilities. Many patrons and staff believe that implementing a discount would significantly enhance accessibility and benefit the community. Investing in these changes could make Asphalt Green an even more inclusive and attractive place for everyone.”

“Trying to be constructive here as this is a great activity center for kids, but maybe because of that success, the coaches are not taking this more seriously and are falling into a comfort zone. In this case I am talking about the swimming coaches - they just have the kids (7 year old group) swimming laps without TRULY coaching them on style, basic strokes or trying to see what each kinds needs to correct or learn to become better class after class. If a kid is not learning at this stage basic freestyle form properly, the rest falls, so after more than 6 classes I am not seeing the coaches (female or male) truly teaching and supervising. At this age they need dedicated attention and although we are not expecting to get personal all the time, the science is in the details at this stage. You can see the coaches just walking around and playing more a role of life guards checking the kids are not drawing, than truly teaching. Hope the management get this message and start supervising more the coaches!!!”
