1 / 2Marciano Art Foundation
π Central LA, CA
Free contemporary art museum in a renovated 1961 Masonic temple with rotating exhibitions, permanent installations, an on-site art book library, and free gated parking. Advance reservations required.
Free entry and free parking - reservations are required, which we didnβt know, but our parking attendant was extremely kind and helpful and helped us navigate to get a time slot! The museum is 4 stories (middle was under construction when we went), and there were many cool exhibits to walk through, look at, and read about. There is also a library on the first floor of art and photography books to browse. Definitely would love to come back in the future when some of the exhibits change to see what new is being offered!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 10 and up who can engage with large-scale contemporary art in a quieter museum setting. The intimate scale β visitable in under two hours β makes it a low-commitment cultural stop that pairs well with other West Hollywood or Mid-City activities.

βWe booked tickets (free, and includes parking in their gated lot in back) for a Saturday afternoon visit. MAF is a small museum, making it feel as though you are visiting your uber-wealthy friendβs art collection. It was not crowded by any means, the artwork is thought provoking, staff courteous, and you could do much worse in LA on a weekend. Afterwards, we took a short drive to Koreatown and had KBBQ.β

βThis place is free with a reservation for entry. In a jewel of a building (designed by Millard Sheets?) with a (permanent?) exhibit of Masonic accoutrements doscovered during renovation. Other exhibits were murals and a giant, triple screen slide show. There's an actual library of art books with plenty of seating for reading. I didn't see a gift shop, though.β

βThe Sister Mary Corita exhibits (her photography of LA in the 60s/70s and videos of her screen-printing) were amazing. Go see it! Also check out the room with the history of the Masonic temple. The building is stunning. And thereβs a gorgeous balcony with a view of the leafy neighborhood. You must reserve tickets in advance but itβs very easy to do.β
